Spring Inspection, City Drainage Project, Request for Ideas, Important Dates

Hello Garden Members,

I wanted to say HELLO as the sunshine has shown it's lovely face! The gardening season is beginning to bud. We have a few new items and a few old ones to share with you:

1) Spring Inspection

Will occur around May 8 this year. Please ensure that you have removed grass and weeds, started cultivation and planting. Your paths should be free and clear of weeds, and debris. All around your fence should also be cleaned up. Trees, shrubs and vines should be located in the southwest corner. Please watch the shading of your neighbours.

2) Garden Visitors & City Drainage Project

We will be hosting a group of artists on Tuesday July 31 for a Plein Air painting day, The artists are from the South Surrey White Rock Art Society.

The City of Surrey will be commencing a Drainage Project in the park starting early May and will be using the side of the road as a temporary stockpile/staging area. They will restore this area once complete. The project is expected to last 5 months. They will be providing traffic control for pedestrians and ourselves. The FRONT GATE will be left open from approximately 7am - 6pm for workers and if needed emergency vehicles. There will be more foot traffic due to curiosity I'm sure.

Let's be gracious hosts and hostesses this difficult season as I'm sure the construction, workers and added curious visitors will disturb our regular peace and quiet. It may be tough but it would be great if we could be our usual welcoming and kind selves this season

If you have concerns/complaints about any workers please contact the City of Surrey through their complaint department Report a non-emergency problem by submitting your Service Request online by using the graphic online at http://www.surrey.ca/city-services/667.aspx. Download the Surrey Request App to submit your request on your smartphone or tablet. Or call the general phone number at 604-591-4011 or Report Emergency Issues by calling 604-591-4152.

3) Garbage & Greens & other WASTE

We need to address our Garbage situation. It is just NOT working. If you have an idea please email meganbaecker@gmail.comWE ARE USING the GREEN BINS until we establish a better method of composting.

Well... Need it be said? I'm sure we are all guilty at some point but CUT down your Debris!
Whole plants are being tossed into the big bins. Please if it's yours take it out, cut it up and put it into the green bins.

We can see many have put in some new improvements. Your new construction is very beautiful and appreciated. Looks good! If you are ripping out your old garden...the rules for all destruction are simple... You must separate your materials. It's YOUR JOB to do it Right. Please remove your nails, take off the old wires, remove the plastic. Clean wood goes into our bin, decent salvage will be reused if stacked properly; BUT metal must be disposed separately. PLASTIC is garbage please take it home to dispose. Cut the greens DOWN.  If you have been guilty of ripping and tossing please show up at the clean up day to help disentangle the mess and place the wood it into the bin.
